Road to Life

Sometimes we have to take a step back and realize what's important in our life - what we can live with, but more importantly what we can live without.

Life seems to be perfect but the way I treated life, I can say I’m such a dumb ass adding up my principle that anyone can't be trusted. But meeting new found friends everything has change, maybe it happens for a reason to revive good life and continue with life blessings.

And how far it will take to travel in the road to life?

As a professor once said “There’s a circle of friends out there who’s willing to be a part of your journey, so get out in your closet have fun and cherish the memories.”

Yes it’s true I just need to value the people I'm going to meet, be wise enough to trust to gain respect, and simply appreciate the beauty of life.

Friends with benefits

Yesterday, A friend of mine invited me to accompany her in the gatherings where I had a chance to meet a lot of kababayan’s working in different type of professions gathered together in Al Aveda park.

What I expect to happen was a picnic, a usual get together every Friday for most of Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) here in Doha who spend time during working off days. I don’t have any idea but when she introduce me to John – Regional coordinator of Migrante ME. First thing comes in my mind is the RA10175 also known as the cyber crime law. As it is the hot issue now a days in the Philippines through different types of media it reached every Filipino who’s technically engaged most of the time in the Internet. Without reading its content a day before the implementation, comments from FB & Twitter reached full blast from celebrities and an ordinary user asking for revamp nor revising the bill.

Now I know what will be the subject of the meetings. But as such Impromptu to do an emcee wasn’t a demand for me to play a role being a guest participant in this types of meetings. Usually when I’m in a conversation between a group with new friends I’ve met I usually lend my ear and smile when needed. I don’t have the winner smile but I must admit and insists to myself that I’m a good listener, I don’t often do advice. It may or may not help coz I don’t want to lose the moment of one’s in the position who’s seeking advice or sharing thoughts.

As the program was about to start, being an emcee a draft of handwritten notes “KMK Program” handover to me by one of the facilitator. Just a glanced from the lists and the program begins. The camera woman takes some photo while I’m introducing myself and the first part ended without shivering of voice, cold feet and nervousness. The second part of the program an intermission was skipped as the performer wasn’t ready and still on practicing, so proceed with the orientation start led by Sonja – SAMMAQA. While listening to her I’ve learned that this is really the agenda why a numbers of 31 OFW have attended to make a decision how they will be a part of the group to participate, to grow and to be active. While most of the majority in the groups from the household jobs; the Employer, Run-away, Released [*Err] these are the cases the group absorbed at the end of the day.

To lighten up the day an intermission inserted. The singer performer sang a theme song from “Flor Contemplacion – The Movie” that inspired the MIGRANTE strive harder and reached Filipino’s in the Philippines and abroad to fight for the right of MIGRANTE. On my personal view I am not against rally people as the politician and media term use to call them. But being a Filipino I admire those who walks in the street, raised their voice and fight for the right of a citizen to awaken the leadership of dictatorship.

On cue and back to the program to create a new sets of leaders to cover the group “Kapatiran ng Migranteng Kababaihan sa Qatar”(KMK-Qatar) the election begins. Here are the results of the positions filled respectively. Chairperson Sylva wins by majority decision followed by Ruth,my friend who's now a Vice-Chairperson, Secretary General Maritess, Deputy Secretary Judith & Treasurer Anna another friend of mine and Auditor Gina.

Election has ended quite well just like life during my high school student body organization election without the use of election paraphernalia’s. Lunch was served as we’ve all waited for. This is the best moment of camaraderie eating while chatting and sharing each other time to enjoy simple life being an OFW while we are far away from our loved ones.

While everyone’s busy talking into divided groups after a delighted lunch that satisfied our meal, I had a chance to bid goodbye and talk to John & Sonju with the same mission encouraging me to be active In the group or creating another affiliate related to skilled workers group. Some thoughts now running on my mind shall I intact myself to the next gatherings? Although I personally show support to my friends in volunteering myself any assistance I can offer yet still I’m on decision making.
